Leo Express compensated only 5 tickets last year, air conditioning reliability was 99.998%

This year, the company will once again guarantee 100% air conditioning on all trains, while increasing hygiene and safety measures.

Prague, 20th of June 2024 - Summer begins and Leo Express is technically ready. Safety, hygiene and comfort on board are top priorities in this period. On hot summer days, pleasant cooling is a must when traveling by train, which is why Leo Express is the only Czech railway company to guarantee its passengers working air conditioning on all long-distance and regional train connections until the end of August. Otherwise, 100% of the ticket price will be refunded in leo credits. This follows last year's offer of compensation for non-functioning air conditioners, which applied only to commercial services and is now being extended to all trains. From the end of June to August 2023, the company carried more than 225,000 passengers, but only had to refund 5 tickets, with air conditioning reliability of 99.998%.

"It is important for us to be ready for the summer season in terms of technology, hygiene and safety. In addition to the other obvious advantages of traveling by train, we focus on temperature comfort. This is especially important when traveling in formal clothing such as shirts or summer dresses. That's why Leo Express guarantees air conditioning on its long-distance and regional trains during the summer months. In terms of hygiene, we clean our trains intensively throughout the year, which contributes to even greater comfort," says Michaela Müllerová, Customer Service Manager at Leo Express.

The air conditioning on board the Leo Express trains undergoes regular and costly maintenance. This not only ensures passenger comfort, but also staff safety and the overall operation of the train. The trains are also regularly cleaned at turnarounds, using ozone and other disinfectants to ensure the highest level of hygiene. The carrier also automatically adjusts the intensity of the air conditioning in the carriages according to the outside temperature to avoid temperature shocks. Passengers can also cool down on board with ice cream or chilled drinks.

Air conditioning is very important to Leo Express. In addition to regular air conditioning checks and the use of ozone to disinfect and clean the interior, safety is a priority for Leo Express. This is why the company focuses on regular and thorough driver training and simulator training.

Air conditioning you can count on

"It is obvious that the air conditioning on board the Leo Express is really reliable. Last year we carried more than 225,000 passengers during the air conditioning guarantee offer, but we only had to compensate 5 tickets in total, which means a reliability of 99.998%," adds Michaela Müllerová.

In the past, the vast majority of customers traveled on Leo Express long-distance trains with working air conditioning, otherwise the carrier refunded 25% of the ticket price in leo credits due to reduced comfort. This year, the carrier has decided to guarantee its functionality again.

If the air conditioning on the connecting train is not working for more than 45 minutes and it is not possible to transfer the passenger to another air-conditioned seat on the train, 100% of the fare will be refunded in leo credits. All the passenger has to do is be a member of the Smile Club loyalty program, which offers other benefits in addition to the air conditioning guarantee. For example, cashback of up to 10% of the fare for each trip.
