Planting More Trees, This Time in Silesia
Together with you, we supported the fifth green project in the Czech Republic. You voted for the municipality of Dolní Lhota, which decided to reclaim a former biowaste dump and plant trees. Our colleagues were also involved in planting trees on the site. Travelling by train is the most environmentally friendly mode of transport, and thanks to passengers helping to offset its carbon footprint, its already low environmental impact can be reduced even further.
Betting on the Future
In March we took part in another planting project funded by your contributions to offset the carbon footprint of train travel. This time we went to the village of Dolní Lhota near Ostrava, where we joined other volunteers in planting fruit trees, shrubs and deciduous trees. The planting, worth €3500, will offset 38.6 tonnes of CO2.
More Water And Biodiversity
A total of 35 fruit trees were planted at Dolní Lhota, including 12 apple trees, 12 plum trees and 11 pear trees. Reclamation will help to increase biodiversity, reduce water and wind erosion, increase water retention, improve the landscape character of the site and strengthen the overall resilience of the local landscape. The area of the former landfill site will be transformed through reclamation into a natural environment that will blend into the surrounding landscape over time.
