Do Touch!

Learning science is no longer about memorizing formulas. Science centres full of interactive attractions keep emerging all over Czechia, offering children scientific knowledge and understanding through play. And they are not just for kids!

Media Literacy

Ostrava is not lagging behind in the world of science. The Dolní Vítkovice site includes the Science and Technology Centre with four permanent exhibitions featuring modern workshops and labs. You can also see popular science shows in the Theatre of Science.

The ZooM exhibition focuses on visual literacy and is designed to develop critical thinking and make visitors understand how media can manipulate our minds through visual input. There are pictures showing things which might be initially misinterpreted as something completely different. Identifying fake news has become a vital skill. The U6 Science and Technology Centre is in the next building. You can try using pneumatic tube transport, race on a paddle boat, or make your own badge in the smithy.

🧑‍🔬 Science for Little Ones

The science centre VIDA! in Brno in the former pavilion D of the Fairground shows some 180 interactive exhibits which will let you learn about the world around us through exploration, experiment, and play. In the section entitled Planeta, you can create fog and observe how it descends into the valley. You can try to withstand an earthquake, or experience the effect of centrifugal force in a rotating chamber. You can be a jet pilot and test your stomach in a 3G flying simulator in the Civilization section. You can also try the slot car racing track model of the Masaryk Racing Circuit in Brno.

It is a great place even for children from the age of two. In the archaeological sand pit, they can use brushes to reveal what is hidden under the surface. There are balance bikes, climbing frames, slides, but also a water playground full of balls, boats, and watermills. The parents do not need to worry about the wet clothes – the next section features a fantastic dryer for little explorers.

The World of Glass

All school children should visit the Matematicum section, which turns difficult mathematical problems into fun. You will see that nature is full of mathematics. Do you know why bees make the holes in the honeycomb hexagonal? Architecture relies on mathematics too; iQLANDIA will let you design your own dream house. The new Crystal Path tells the story of Czech glass production. The individual exhibits show the materials used in glass production or various uses of glass. You can download an app, answer several questions related to the exhibition, and get the password to light up the crystal Molecule. You can even win a family ticket to iQLANDIA.
