Under the Wings of Pardubice

Located in East Bohemia, at the confluence of the Labe and the Chrudimka, Pardubice is a pleasant town full of green parks and amazing monuments. There is a lot to see for lovers of culture and history, but also for sports enthusiasts. Most visitors direct their attention to the castle and the renowned local ginger bread production, but there is much more.

Thy Synonym of Success

In the second half of the 20th century, the logo of Tesla Pardubice was present in virtually every Czech and Slovak household. The company was founded in Roztoky u Prahy in 1919. Three years later, it moved to Pardubice. The manufacturer of telephones and telegraphs later expanded its product range and took the name of the famous Serbian inventor Nikola Tesla, the founder of modern-day electronics. The Museum of Eastern Bohemia in Pardubice prepared an exhibition entitled Telegrafia on the Go, Tesla on the Rise.

Treat from the Witch 🍯

Pardubice and ginger bread are inseparable. The history of the local honey-based delicacy production reaches back to 1515, when the first gingerbread producer was reported in Pardubice, and one of the streets was already called Gingerbread Lane. Local producers use a special secret recipe. Thanks to the meticulous handcraft, the products are much less likely to mould, rancidify or crumble. There are currently three licensed producers in Pardubice - Novotný, Pavel Jaroš and JaJa, but you can buy high quality products even from other brands, for instance at the train station in the Perníček z Pardubic shop. If you feel like a trip, visit the Gingerbread House and the Museum of Gingerbread in Ráby, just under Kunětická Hora. You can walk a Spooky Forest Trail and ask the witch for a piece of delicious gingerbread.

Saddle Up!

The Grand Pardubice Steeplechase (Velká Pardubická) is the longest-running sports competition in the country. It arose from a traditional fox hunt. The racecourse with hurdles was built later. Velká Pardubická takes place annually on the second Sunday in October, with up to 20 racers ready to deal with the 31 obstacles on the 6,900 m long racecourse. If you want to see the course for yourselves, you can apply for a commented tour of the site.
